New
residential alarm tagging requirements
to go into effect Aug. 1 The tagging requirement will go into effect on Aug. 1. Although the law states that only residential fire alarm panels must be tagged, OKBFAA is encouraging industry members to tag all new residential panels, regardless of its fire rating. “As far as enforcement goes, the State will be looking at all residential installs regardless of whether it's rated for fire or not,” said Rick Spring, OKBFAA president. “It's better in the long term to simply white tag every new panel install.” The law is written as follows: “A white sticker shall be permanently affixed to the residential fire alarm panel or if the panel is a self contained unit, the sticker shall be placed on the breaker panel door. The white sticker shall be affixed at the time of installation acceptance. The following additional requirements shall apply to the use of the white sticker: 1. The white sticker shall be a permanently affixed sticker that is completed by the Alarm Panel contractor. The sticker shall remain on the panel indefinitely. The sticker shall be five inches (5”) in length and four inches (4”) in width. 2. The white sticker shall contain the following information: a) “DO NOT REMOVE BY ORDER OF THE CODE OFFICIAL; b) The contractor’s full name, complete address and phone number; c) The contractor's Oklahoma license number; d) The applicable version of the NFPA which the system was installed; e) The date of installation; and f) The installer's name and license number. 3. All information on the white sticker shall be printed and legible.
